Arrested for Starting Fred Mountain Fire | Las Vegas News

A 47-year-old woman, Christine Mitchell, was arrested for allegedly starting the Fred Mountain Fire near Reno—just as crews battled another blaze, straining emergency resources and endangering lives. Her confession reportedly came after leaving a home on Fred Mountain Road. The arrest followed a state of emergency declared for Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, as fires have scorched over 57,000 acres, forced evacuations, and placed thousands on alert. With the emergency set to last until August 17th, this incident underscores how fast wildfires can spiral—and the severe consequences when human actions ignite them.
