Arrogance Fuels Strife

Insolence — an old word for a pride so sure of itself it won’t be told anything. In this episode, Blake opens Proverbs 13:10 and traces the line Solomon draws: arrogance breeds strife, while humility that listens and takes counsel breeds wisdom and peace. Underneath most conflict, he says, is a quiet need to be right, to win, to not back down — and he shares a phrase from his friend Scott Engelman he returns to constantly: “You can be right, or you can be in relationship.” You have to pick.But the heart of it is a mirror: before you replay everything the other person did wrong, turn the lens on yourself and ask whether there’s arrogance in you — because it hides in the smallest habits. Blake calls us to confess it, to seek to understand rather than defend, and to choose the relationship over the win.
