Art Diary: Southern Guild presents uBuhle boKhokho (Beauty of Our Ancestors), a solo exhibition

PLOT; For our gig guide this evening, celerating the first weekend of Janaury 2023, we are joined on the line by an artist born in 1979 in the town of Mthatha in the Eastern Cape province, Poswa studied surface design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She draws on this knowledge to amalgamate the visual stimuli she encounters in her daily life intoa simplified pattern language. In 2006, she and fellow ceramicist Andile Dyalvane openedtheir studio, Imiso Ceramics (Imiso meaning “tomorrow”). Southern Guild presents uBuhle boKhokho (Beauty of Our Ancestors), a solo exhibition by Zizipho Poswa, from 17 November 2022 to 2 February, 2023. This new series of ceramic and bronze sculptures draws inspiration from the elaborate art of hairstyling practised by Black women across the African continent and diaspora.   Guest by Zizipho Poswa
