About This Episode A Conversation between Prof. Ablade Glover and Dr. Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh (IUB) Part 2 In the premiere episode of blaxxRADIO, we sit down with luminary Ghanaian artist, Prof. Ablade Glover, for a deep dive into his career. This interview took place in 2017 during blaxTARLINES KUMASI's exhibition titled "Orderly Disorderly," which paid homage to Prof. Glover's lifework. Profile of Interviewer: Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, Ph.D., is a curator, critic, and educator at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. He is the curator of the group exhibition titled Fragments of a World After Its Own Image (2025) at APALAZZOGALLERY in Italy. His current research observes the exhibition as a pedagogical situation while positing the curator as a self-subverting authority. Profile of Interviewee: Prof. Ablade Glover is a Ghanaian educator, modernist painter, and founder of Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Art Education and Dean of the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, until 1994. His political vision of mobilizing artists towards economic emancipation in the early 1990s in a milieu of hopelessness has inspired blaxTARLINES KUMASI. "Orderly Disorderly" honors Professor Glover's lifework, and draws inspiration from his series of paintings—dubbed "Order in Disorder"—which expediently renders movement, dynamism, color, mood and spirit of crowd scenes and "faceless masses" (marketscapes, townscapes, celebrations, trotro stations, forestscapes, beachscapes, and so on) by manipulating the oil paint medium on canvas with a palette knife. For Glover, the materiality of the pigment also becomes part of what constitutes the picture on canvas.
