ARTSPEAK RADIO with Rivera, Sandoval, Simms, & Cunningham
from Artspeak Radio · host Maria Vasquez Boyd
Wednesday May 2, noon to 1PM Host/producer Maria Vasquez Boyd talks with artist/printmaker/educator Miguel Rivera, designer/artist/educator Angelica Sandoval, painter Christian Simms along with Christel Highland and Lori Raye Erickson and musician/educator David Cunningham and 25 of his music students jammed into the KKFI studio! Christian Simms, Kansas City, Missouri native, has been exploring the human form since the late 80's. Known primarily for his "blind contour" style, his work seeks the balance between abstraction and figurative representation. The use of bright color and line express the fluidity and motion in his paintings. He often uses collage and other mixed media to give the work texture and depth. Recently he has been taking a more graphic approach to his work with objects such as firearms and tanks. This new work explores male upbringing, playing with the theme of war and adolescence. By rendering these objects in bright, candy-like color, he blurs the line between dangerous weapons of war and toys of a lost childhood. Simms has had a number of solo shows as well as participating in group shows, primarily at The Late Show Gallery. www.xnsimmsart.com www.cargocollective.com/xnsimms DECADE Selected works by Christian Simms Friday May 4, 6PM Veritable Art 2010 Baltimore…
