from Roar with Shari. . . All Things Justice for Women & Survivors · host Shari Karney

As a Victim of Domestic Violence, Now Outspoken Survivor, Neisha Himes Helps African American Girls G.R.O.W with her Nonprofit Aimed at Raising Self Esteem and Opportunity. In this episode, you will hear the distressed 911 call of a 6-year old child calling for help as the little girl is witnessing domestic violence in her home.  Neisha Himes experienced domestic violence. As an African American woman, she felt even less heard and able to stand up for herself. It’s been nine years since she was last assaulted in a domestic violence nightmare. Neisha said it was the most violent and vicious assault she’d ever endured. She escaped the abusive relationship and left the white man battering her. “Boxing has been very instrumental in my journey as a survivor” she shares. The journey started wanting to learn to defend myself. It wasn’t long after leaving that abusive relationship that Neisha knew, “I never want to feel like I can’t defend myself again.” Neisha founded the nonprofit, G.R.O.W. to help girls of color and the BIPOC community improve self-esteem their ability to be successful, and their destiny. Neisha has a quiet way of speaking the truth and drawing the truth out of listeners.
