Ash Wednesday: Chocolat

from Catholic Church · host Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales

As we travel on a journey of faith through Christ's passion, death and resurrection, this podcast series - 'Lent and Easter at the Movies' - takes us to the cinema as Fr Peter Malone MSC relates a series of thought-provoking movies to the day's Gospel reading. Ash Wednesday - Chocolat (2000) "Chocolat tells the story of people in a French village in 1959. The mayor really lets people know [that he is virtuous]. In the end it's too much for him and and he's rather repressed himself and indulges in chocolates - he's revealed as something of a hypocrite. Jesus actually says if you do parade yourself then you are a hypocrite."
