These feats of engineering reshape cities, providing homes and offices high above the streets. There are generally 2 men that are considered the 'Father of the American Skyscraper,' one is William Le Baron Jenney was an American architect and engineer. He designed the Home Insurance Building in Chicago, completed in 1885, which is widely considered the world's first skyscraper due to its innovative steel-frame construction. At ten stories, which by today's standards hardly seems high at all...but for that time it was huge. The other is Louis H. Sullivan...he invented the steel frame and popularized the famous design rule that a building's shape should reflect its inner purpose and structure. In fact, he was Frank Lloyd Wright's mentor. Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world at 2,722 feet.
