Ashley Okland: Open House Cold Case
from Red Flags and Body Bags Hosted by Red Flags and Body Bags
On a sunny Friday afternoon in 2011, 27-year-old realtor Ashley Okland was shot twice inside a model townhome during an open house in West Des Moines, Iowa. No robbery. No major clues left behind. Just gone—in broad daylight, in a place that was supposed to feel safe. For fifteen years her family lived in agonizing limbo while detectives chased thousands of leads that went nowhere. Then, on March 17, 2026, an arrest finally came. In this episode, we sit with the red flags the real estate industry ignored for too long, the betrayal when danger comes from inside the professional circle you trust, and the quiet strength of a family that refused to let hope die. Ashley’s story isn’t just about a murder that stayed cold—it’s about what happens when everyday routines become deadly, and how one woman’s light still shines through an inclusive playground built in her name years later.
