Ashmore Estates f/k/a Coles County Poor House

Once a poorhouse/poor farm, private psychiatric hospital, and nursing home, Ashmore Estates has been said to be one of the most haunted locations in America... as well as one of the spookiest. Located in Ashmore, Illinois, the Ashmore Estates is a historic building built in 1870 in the middle of 260 acres that was once the home to hundreds of individuals who were indigent, mentally ill, and/or elderly. Able bodied residents were expected to work on the farm, and sadly, someone once said the animals who lived in the barn had better accommodations than the people that lived inside the building. Visitors, tour guides, and investigators report seeing shadow people, a boiler room spirit who met a tragic fate, the giggles of a little girl, EVPs, a 7-foot shadow man, and the ghost of a little girl holding their hand.
