Ashnikko, Singer/Songwriter

from Women in Music with Millie Cotton

Welcome back to women in music, the podcast sharing the tales of brilliant minds in music, they all just happen to be female. It is SO good to be back for season three of the podcast, which has been supported by the Arts Fund Council, so a huge shout out to them for their support. Our first guest of the season is singer-rapper Ashnikko, who is on an astronomical rise. She’s just released her hotly anticipated DEMIDEVIL mixtape which has gained critical acclaim from the Observer to NME. She’s been named as one to watch by Vogue, Elle and the Sunday Times Style Magazine for her acerbic lyrics that swing punches at the patriarchy as well as promoting sexual liberation. Since the release of her Hi, It’s Me EP in 2019, Ashnikko has gained nearly 2 million followers on TikTok, with Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish stating their fans too. Her new mixtape is heavily inspired by naughties icons like Avril Lavigne and Kelis and sees her collaborate with the ethereal pop star Grimes and underground New York rapper Princess Nokia too. Thanks for listening to the episode, and don’t forget to rate and review on iTunes.
