Road Traffic Infringement Authority has said the roll-out of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences system to 69 municipalities across the country is an effort to curb the highnumber of road fatalities in the country. The AARTO demerit system is a points-based system that penalizes drivers for traffic offenses to encourage better driving habits and reduce road fatalities.Drivers accumulate demerit points for violations, and if they exceed a certain threshold their license is suspended for three months per point over the limit. We get more from RTIA spokesperson Monde Mkalipi.
