In this episode I welcome a new guest to the ASRH: Yair is a world traveller from the ancient land of Israel whose depth of wisdom is made evident in this conversation.  The appreciation of the present moment exists in tension with the grasping mind that strives to manage life.  The two are incompatible yet it is only through their integration that we can experience the fullness of life.  I don’t know that this summary does justice to the subject discussed.  Listen and then forget about it - for the present moment cannot be extended beyond this now and efforts to possess are futile. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems.
