In His introduction to assessing the church in Smyrna, Jesus observed that it was poor by earthly measures but rich in His view. Therefore, although the church in Smyrna appeared impoverished by human standards, from God’s viewpoint, it was rich. This prompts the question, “How should the church perceive itself? Should it gauge itself by worldly standards or God’s standards?” This is a public episode.
