Asteroid Strike Warning: 2024 YR4
from Greatest Mysteries and Sci-Fi Hosted by Carraway Production
The episode provides a detailed analysis of asteroid 2024 yr4, which has a notable, though still small, chance of impacting Earth on December 22, 2032. The hosts explain how the asteroid was discovered and the process by which astronomers refined its orbit, noting that the probability of impact initially rose as the uncertainty zone shrank around Earth. The discussion covers the potential destructive scale of the impact, estimating the object's size and energy yield to be comparable to a massive nuclear device, given that it is a solid chunk of rock rather than a loose rubble pile.
