"astrology was right! i'm a fool!" (Envelope #09)

from Wholeheartedly, (by Clahrah)

Ingredients: this envelope has been stargazing and has found herself at your door. often we may feel like the most difficult person to get to know is ourselves. this is true for a lot of us! and one of the places we may turn to could be astrology, tarot readings, or personality tests and quizzes. at the centre of it, maybe it's because we just want to know who we are. we want to feel known and be understood. we may also simply want to Know. still, where do we draw the line? are there defects with these spaces? what's just for fun and what isn't so fun?- what is it about astrology charts and personality typings that makes us curious? - what are the shadows that appear when these labels are used to make assumptions and generalisations? - what were some of /your/ thoughts with astrology?- !!! still! what's an alternative to these serious 'tests' that can be harmless fun? The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
