I am the oldest of six. Our mother passed at 39, and I got the call while volunteering at a community center. By the time I made it to the hospital, she was already gone.There was no dress rehearsal for any of it.The obituary landed in my lap. So did the mortgage on the house we were living in. I bought it so my dad and my five younger siblings would still have a place to call home. The homeowner was a family friend and they gave me the rent money that was paid to help with the down payment.
