At The Bessie, A Celebration Of Freedom For This Juneteenth

The Bessie Smith Cultural CenterJuneteenth is a celebration of freedom: the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans after the end of the Civil War.In downtown Chattanooga, one of the celebrations for this year’s holiday on Wednesday will be at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center - 200 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. - from 11 AM to 6 PM.Elijah Cameron is with the Bessie._____Also on Wednesday in downtown Chattanooga: The Juneteenth National Freedom Day Parade and Gala.  The lineup for the parade begins at 12:30 PM on Peeples St.  The parade starts at 1 PM.  The gala in Miller Park begins at 2 PM. The Juneteenth Commemoration Ceremony, featuring Inversion Vocal Ensemble, starting at 6 PM at the Walker Theatre - part of the Juneteenth Festival presented by the Chattanooga Festivals of Black Arts and Ideas.  To register for the free event, visit blackartsandideasfest.com.
