ATA's James Bond 50th Anniversary Tribute Podcast Part 1 (Standard)
from Across the Airwaves Podcast (Standard MP3) · host Dan Schmidt & Nico Reifsteck
Hello ATA Listeners, the question I present to you today is how you pay tribute to a character like Bond, James Bond who has graced the silver screen for 50 years with Secret Agent adventures that has spawned generations of fans and brought the male side of families together? Well, here at ATA I figured we could try something different for our show to celebrate five decades of James Bond on the silver screen. At first I thought about doing commentaries on my favorite Bond films but we did that already with the movies leading up to The Avengers. In other words, I began to envision something much bigger. Something that would be worthy of a character who has spanned generations, a retrospective on James Bond discussing everything that has to do with the man who many believe to be the pride of Her Majesty's Secret Service. ATA has certainly had its outstanding Retro Reviews but this was going to be the end-all be-all of podcast tributes to Mr. Bond covering everything from his on-screen creation and history to the characters most recent incarnation in the box office breaking smash hit Skyfall starring the outstanding Daniel Craig. However, in going to the ATA Corps I ran into the issue of my talented cohosts not feeling that they had enough background on 007 to do a retrospective, so I ended up calling one of the biggest James Bond fans I know, Agent 008 1/2 with the flaming pants himself, Kyle Franchi. And together we were able make my dream a reality by creating James Bond 50th Anniversary Tribute Podcast that was made worthy of its title through us talking about a variety of topics such as a in-depth review on Skyfall, an analysis of Bond actors/villains/women, an oral history on the Bond Film Franchise and much more including stories about our breaking and entering loving friend Steve. Hi Steve! Yes like it or not you're going to be referenced in this podcast but it's only because we love you and associate you to James Bond as much as Sean Connery. Anyway, in going back to the podcast there was so much great content stuffed into this 50th Anniversary Tribute we had to make it into a four part podcast miniseries beginning with the episode that's posted below but for For Your Eyes Only is a brief dossier explaining what's in store for our James Bond 50th Anniversary Tribute Podcast over the next four missions or episodes!!! Mission One: Explains how Kyle and I became fascinated with the James Bond Franchise and gives a in-depth review on the most recently released film starring Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond, the Sam Mendes directed film Skyfall. Mission Two: Kyle and I give a report card to each of the actors who have played James Bond along with talking about our favorite Bond Girls and Villains. Mission Three: Kyle and I give a full-blown oral history retrospective on the James Bond Film Franchise from Dr. No to Skyfall going behind the scenes on its triumphs and tribulations including the debacle surrounding the unofficial Bond film Never Say Never Again starring the great Sean Connery. Mission Four: The podcast miniseries wraps itself up with Kyle and I taking a look at the various James Bond video games that attributed to success for the modern era of the Bond Franchise including one of the most popular games of all time N64's Goldeneye. We also discuss what we think is next for the Bond Film Franchise with the two films slated to be released after Skyfall, providing several crackpot theories on how to salvage the Quantum/Mr. White story arc that fell apart in the rush to make Quantum of Solace. Alright, now that you have your objectives it's time to stop by Q Branch to retrieve your weapon, fire up the Ashton Martin DB5 and listen to Part 1 of this outstanding podcast that's shaken but not stirred to be som…
