Atmabodha Verse 36

from Silent Wisdom · host Muni

Verse 36 Sentient beings are put into different categories - insects, avian, aquatics, terrestrials, animals, apes, and humans. Humans are segregated depending upon nationality, race, skin-colour, ethnicity, caste, religion, etc. There are divisions even at the level of the body - hands are distinct from legs which are distinct from stomach head and so on. But there is no division at the level of Atman. Ignorance and understanding is in the intellect. Enlightenment isn’t something that one achieves, it is something that is known, experientially. The day one remembers, even in deep sleep that he/she is the ever conscious, eternal, absolute existence - that would be the mark of enlightenment. In deep sleep, mind is inactive, the intellect is inactive yet - I know I am. As one is aware of the body at all times, so should be the awareness of the real nature ie the absolute pure existence. Even in deep sleep, if one doesn’t forget his/her real nature, then that individual is an enlightened being. It is both an intellectual - conviction and an experiential feeling. When the clear image of Atman is seen in the intellect and when the unwavering conviction (that I am not boy-senses-mind-intellect- I am the pure Self) occurs in the intellect Pragya/ wisdom arises. [Information - is collected data ; no personal experience - usually the cause of ignorance. Knowledge - is having gone through the experience Pragya - wisdom is the fragrance of the knowledge ( a wise person knows when to use information and when to use the knowledge and act upon it and when to refrain from acting; and to differentiate between truth and untruth)] The intellect that’s full of ignorance, has to get purified and sublimated. It should become as transparent as a crystal that reflects a clear image of the Self. The process is to go inwards. A reverse journey from outward to inward has to be done. Atman and intellect’s wedlock:- In deep sleep state, the Self/ Atman is alone, unaccompanied by the intellect. i)in this state, the mind-intellect are inactive, what exist is the ego.(apart from the real Self) It is the EGO THAT KNOWS- that it didn’t know what happened in deep sleep. The NOT-KNOWING IS KNOWN BY THE EGO. It is the ego that brings the individual out of deep sleep. In deep sleep there is no awareness. ii)In the state of samadhi, Chitta is active. ( chitta is the subconscious and unconscious mind and it is the storehouse of all Samskaras, and has the account of all karmas ). In samadhi there is heightened awareness. It is the chitta that brings a Yogi out from state of samadhi (as he to has to bear the consequences of his previous karma.) [ it is the chitta that brings us down from the meditative state. Chitta is the collection of all the samskaras and impurities] Mind and intellect are inactive in both - deep sleep and Samadhi. But ‘I’ the real Self exists in all the states and all the time. The confines of the mind-intellect has to be transcended to experience the singular reality the Atman. In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, “The enlightened being is one who is free of attachments and egotism; The one who has discarded the association of body-senses-mind-intellect; the one who knows the eternal ‘I’ and is established in the real Self. That individual is liberated from all the dualities” To those who want to find God, Sri Krishna says to look within, as God resides in one’s own heart as Atman. There IS distinction at the level of the mind. However, at the level of Atman there is NO distinction - Atman and God are one and the same. Sanskrit word ‘Paramatman’ means the Supreme( param) real Self( atman). निस्संदेह "मैं" (भगवान) नित्य, शुद्ध, मुक्त्त,अद्वैत, अद्वितीय,अदृश्य, जीवन, ज्ञान, असीम ,परम सुख हूं। चेतना के आधार पर प्राणियों का विभाजन कुछ इस तरह कर सकते हैं: * मानव *जानवर *वानर *स्थलीय *जलीय *पक्षीय *कीट आदि इसी तरह विभाजन हम *लिंग *प्राकृत वास *राष्ट्रीयता *धर्म *जाति आदि और भी बहुत तरह कर सकते हैं। परंतु क्या आत्मा का विभाजन संभव है? क्या आत्मा का कोई धर्म जाति भाई-बहन है? हरगिज़ नहीं। आत्मा अविभाज्य है । प्रश्न # कौन मुक्त है /या किसे मुक्त कहा जा सकता है? श्री कृष्ण जी इसका उत्तर देते हुए कहते हैं कि जो इंसान * बंधन मुक्त हैं * अहम् भाव से मुक्त हैं * जो शरीर और मन से ऊपर उठ चुके हैं * जो "मैं " के शाश्वत होने के साक्षी हैं | • वही सच्चा ज्ञानी है। • वह "मैं " ही हो चुका है। • वह अद्वैत भाव में समा चुका है। आगे श्री कृष्ण जी ज्ञान मार्ग के बारे में बताते हुए कहते हैं कि " मैं " ( भगवान) आंख और मन द्वारा नहीं जाना जा सकता। क्योंकि मुझे जड़ द्वारा नहीं जाना जा सकता। .."मैं " को "मैं "का साक्षी होकर ही जाना जा सकता है। प्रश्न# भगवान को कैसे पाया जा सकता है ? श्री कृष्ण जी कहते हैं कि इस के लिए: > स्वयं के भीतर झांको > आत्मा को पहचानों.... क्योंकि मैं आत्मा के रूप में आपके अंदर ही वास करता हूं > आत्मा को जानने की योग्यता उत्पन्न करो। क्योंकि योग्यता के स्तर पर ही सारा भेद है। > आत्मा के स्तर पर सब एक हैं ।यानी कि आत्मा के साक्षी होने के बाद सारा भेद शून्य हो जाता है। प्रश्न# मन, बुद्धि और शरीर को समझने के पश्चात(कि हम यह नहीं हैं ) ।जब हम आत्मा के साक्षी हो जाते हैं ,तो यह स्थिति * क्या ज्ञानोदय की है? * क्या यह अनुभव है? * क्या यह एहसास है? * क्या यह कोई सिद्धांत का समझन आना है? समझने का अभिप्राय यहां बुद्धि से है ।क्योंकि बुद्धि ही समझती है और अज्ञान भी बुद्धि में हीं है। आत्मा तो अज्ञान में नहीं होती। -जान ऐसी स्थिति है जिसे पाया नहीं जा सकता। - ज्ञान केवल प्रयोगिक जांच के द्वारा ही प्राप्त किया जा सकता है। मान लो अगर हम गहरी नींद में हैं ।कोई हमें हमारे नाम से पुकारे।तब अवश्य ही हम उठ खड़े होंगे। क्योंकि गहन निंद्रा में भी हम अपने नाम से जुड़े हैं। ठीक इसी तरह अगर हम गहन निंद्रा में भी इस आत्मा वाले "मैं" के चैतन्य रूप से बंधे रहे....तो अवश्य ही यह जागरूकता की स्थिति .. हमारे ज्ञानी होने का प्रमाण है। - गहन निंद्रा -> मन बुद्धि निष्क्रिय -फिर भी मुझे गहरी नींद आई थी ....इसका मैं साक्षी हूं। यह अटूट आस्था बुद्धि के दम पर है। जैसे शरीर का आभास हमें हरदम रहता है । - उसी तरह अगर हमें आत्मा का आभास भी हमेशा रहना चाहिए। यही अभास: *बौद्धिक आस्था भी है * प्रयोगात्मक एहसास भी है। इसलिए हमें अंदर की तरफ मुड़ना है। उल्टी यात्रा बहुत जरूरी है। सांसारिक लोगों से उलट दिशा में जाकर ही "मैं "से रूबरू होंगे। * मिट्टी से शरीर बनता है और इसी में लीन हो जाता है =यह शरीर की यात्रा है *जब हम आत्मा के साक्षी हो जाते हैं= यहीं पर हमारी असली यात्रा खत्म होती है या यह भी बोल सकते हैं कि शुरू होती । जब बुद्धि गिर जाती है तब आत्मा प्रकाशित हो जाती है। दूसरे शब्दों में...जब अटूट आस्था प्रज्वलित होती है ...तो विवेक उजागर होता है । इस विवेक की महक हर तरफ महकने लगती है। मान लो आत्मा और बुद्धि की शादी हो गई । •आत्मा अकेले ही ( घूमने) चल दी। >गहरी निद्रा में आत्मा अकेले (बुद्धि निष्क्रिय) | अहम् जानता है कि-उसे नहीं पता कि गहरी नींद में क्या हुआ था। अहम् "ना जानने का" साक्षी है। अहम् निद्रा से बाहर लाता है। •समाधी में भी चित्त साक्षी (सक्रिय) होता है । बुद्धि यहां भी निष्क्रिय ही होती है। इस तरह योगी को चित्त (अचेतन मन और अवचेन मन/unconsious and subconsious mind)समाधि से बाहर लाता है। अतः ... समाधि >चित्त सक्रिय .... गहन निंद्रा >अहम् सक्रिय ....बुद्धि दोनों ही परिस्थितियों में निष्क्रिय ....गहन निंद्रा में = जागरूकता नहीं ... समाधि =पूर्णतः जागरूकता इस तरह यह समझ पाए कि बुद्धि निष्क्रिय हो सकती है।परन्तु आत्मा हमेशा सक्रिय ही रहती है। आत्मा की अद्वितीयता से रूबरू होने के लिए मन-बुद्धि को सब सीमाओं से निकलकर अत्युत्तम होना ही होगा।
