RSS-Feeds kennt wohl jeder. Leider herrscht dort, bei genauerem Hinsehen, ein ziemliches Format-Chaos, das deren Verwendung über reine News-Syndication hinaus stark einschränkt. Atom ist angetreten, diesen Zustand mit einem standardisierten Format zu verbessern. Und Atom-Feeds gemäß RFC4287 sieht man mittlerweile auch schon recht häufig. Seit Oktober 2007 ist nun mit dem Atom Publishing Protocol (RFC5023) der zweite Baustein von Atom verfügbar: Ein standardisiertes Protokoll zum Upload von Inhalten auf Webseiten.
