Attachment Vs. Loving-Kindness (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 3/2/20
from The Aaron Hill Podcast · host The Aaron Hill Podcast
Attachment Vs. Loving-Kindness (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 3/2/20 - Loving-kindness is generosity, love, presence, caring and attention without attachments and or expectations. - Attachments can equal control. Examples: "I'll love you as long as _______." "I'll do this for you as long as _______." etc. Some basic fundamental expectations ARE warranted in certain scenarios (basic respect, safety etc.) but be cautious of deep and extensive attachments that introduces frustration, suffering, resentment etc. - Remember. You can't control how your gift of loving-kindness will be received. - Be VERY careful of being locked into or undesirably committing to scenarios where heavy and unrealistic attachments and expectations are put on you in order to receive some one else's kindness etc. This is NOT kindness at all. This is a subtle emotional trap. - Strive to intentionally be the most open to freely sharing loving-kindness while simultaneously and firmly not tolerating being mistreated or being taken advantage of in the process. Aaron Hill - Always check in with yourself to make sure you're being as honest as possible with yourself about your sharing of love, forgiveness, acceptance etc. and attachments/expectations that naturally arise in you from that sharing. There are times when you honestly won't be able to give because you can't at the moment help the fact that you have deep attachments and unrealistic expectations. When you do identify this you may have to maturely "let go" and come back to the thought of sharing when you no longer have detrimental attachments. This is a demonstration of emotional intelligence. Aaron Hill - Note the times when you are free vs. attached. Celebrate your moments of freedom and be gentle with yourself during times of unhealthy attachment. This will help your overarching goal of being a more loving and kind person toward yourself and the world around you. Aaron Hill
