Attorney Entertains Us with Crazy Stories from the Courtroom

from Dr. Carole's Couch · host Dr. Carole Lieberman

Rarely do we get to hear REAL stories of what goes on in courtrooms all over America. Today's guest, JD Mortmain, has had a long and story-filled career, fighting for his clients in civil and military courts - including appeals, district and supreme courts. His latest book is The Fuzzy Pink Bathrobe and Other Tales of the Law. He shares this case with us, as well as several others. The Tale of Private Hicks, for example, is about his representation of Hicks in a military courtroom, where the veteran's need for continuing disability benefits is questioned, and a forensic psychologist flunks his own mental status test. He also describes a case of parental alienation, in which the judge asks the father, Sir, do you have a toilet? and comes up with a creative way of dividing custody more equally. He also shares a story of a mother who has Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, and is passing her toddler off as having failure to thrive, when it's because she's quietly stealing her child's food. He shares more of these strange, but true, stories that he has seen with his own eyes, while trying to get justice for his clients.
