Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze wants to have spring scrimmages become a part of College Football, and Troy Trojans head coach Jon Sumrall wants to play Auburn in a week. I think scrimmages would be beneficial to the sport, especially because they would provide some entertainment in the preseason months. Spring matchups would also help prevent injuries on both parties' rosters, as there would be about half of each team's players on the field at a given time (11) as compared to the 22 players on the field for a typical spring game. The benefits go beyond injuries, as both participating teams could learn new schemes and tactics to better their ability to win with their given schedule. After all, the testing ground for College Football schemes is at the lower divisions, with the FBS division testing it all out last.
