On that date, the Montreal Expos were in first place in the National League East. That was also the day that major league baseball players went out on strike. They stayed out long enough to throw away the season, and with it, the Expos' chances of maybe getting to a World Series. Rewind to 1976 and the day that Toronto's major league team got its name.
