Tony—along with his husband, Dr. Bruce Smith — was a pillar of the Houston community and a tireless advocate for numerous LGBTQ+ causes. Tony and Bruce were strong advocates for a drop-in center for LGBTQ+ young people. Tony’s dream became a reality with the opening of Tony’s Place. In 1983, Tony competed his Master’s in Social Work at the University of Houston and soon became one of Houston’s best-known gay psychotherapists.
