AUGUST 24: New Albany Mass Shooter Trial, Short North Violence, Franklinton Community Plan, and America's Favorite Couple

(2:00-5:26) Short North Deadly Shooting A 20-year-old is dead after an early Sunday morning shooting in the Short North. Police haven't released any information on a potential shooter or what led up to the shooting. This happened in the 1000 block of North High Street, an area that is no stranger to violence. The city has made attempts to curb crime in the neighborhood, but shootings continue to happen in the nightlife spot.  (5:27-8:27) Newark Reduces Firefighter Staffing Due to Overtime Concerns The Newark Fire Department has already racked up $590,000 in overtime and is on track to reach $940,000, according to the fire union. In order to cut back on overtime pay, the Newark Division of Fire has reduced daily staffing from 17 to 16 firefighters. While it's an adjustment of one person, it takes an engine out of service and some community members aren't happy about the change.  (8:47-16:54) 97.1 The Fan's Tyvis Powell  The Buckeyes announced their captains for the year, a position that carries a lot of responsibility.  (17:25-25:25) Department of Neighborhoods Begins Community Plan for Franklinton The Columbus Department of Neighborhoods is starting the process to create a community plan for Franklinton and the southwest side. This is the fourth community plan created by the Department. The goal is to make the neighborhoods a better place to work, live and play. Kym Douglas, Director of the Department of Neighborhoods, and Patrice Allen Brady, Neighborhoods Administrator, join the conversation about what will make the community plan for Franklinton unique after years of changes to housing prices and demographics.  (25:40-36:12) Murder Trial Begins for Man Accused in New Albany Mass Shooting Bruce Foster faces multiple felony charges, including various murder charges, after Licking County prosecutors say he opened fire inside the KDC One facility in New Albany in February 2025. Two people died in the shooting and four more were injured. Foster had a history of mental health issues, but was still able to legally purchase a gun just months before the shooting, The shooting was also New Albany's first homicide in history.  (36:27-42:21) America's Favorite Couple Contestants  Annmarie and Todd DeWitt are a Dublin couple with quite the story. After meeting at the Memorial Tournament a decade ago, their love and story has grown.
