There are 986 known* out LGBTQ elected officials in the United States – a 17 percent increase in the past year – according to LGBTQ Victory Institute’s Out for America 2021 report, which was released today. While a large increase, LGBTQ people hold just 0.19 percent of elected positions in the United States, despite making up at least 5.6 percent** of the U.S. adult population.
