August 3 — A King's Tragic End and a Prophet's Costly Truth — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | 2 Kings 23:29-36; 2 Chronicles 35:20-25; 36:1-5; Jeremiah 17–20 | Resolved to Read
from The Resolved to Read Podcast · host Jennifer Jolene Deal
In today's reading from 2 Kings 23:29–35, 2 Chronicles 35:20–36:5, and Jeremiah 22:10–17; 26:1–23, Judah's brief season of renewal collapses. Josiah, the reformer king, dies in a battle he was never sent to fight, and his sons rule with none of his heart for the Lord. Jeremiah confronts a king who builds himself a paneled palace through injustice and unpaid labor, reminding him that his father Josiah was known instead for defending the cause of the poor and needy — "Is that not what it means to know me?" says the Lord. Then, standing in the temple courtyard, Jeremiah is threatened with death for telling the truth, while the prophet Uriah is killed for the same message. These chapters remind us that knowing God is measured by justice and mercy rather than by comfort or reputation, and that faithfulness sometimes costs more than we expected.Resolved to Read is a daily chronological Bible podcast guiding you through Scripture in one year—with short readings, quiet moments of reflection, and warm conversations that bring faith to life.Join the journey, stay consistent in God’s Word, and grow spiritually one day at a time.📖 Subscribe on your favorite podcast app or watch on YouTube. 🎧 Listen daily + find the full reading plan by following along in the Daily Bible in Chronological Order edited by F.
