August 4 – The Bread of Life
from The Daily Word · host LakeshoreCF
In today’s episode, Pastor Cory Barnes shares a devotion from John 6:48–51, where Jesus declares, “I am the bread of life.” Pointing back to the manna God provided for Israel in the wilderness, Jesus reveals that the miraculous bread was always meant to foreshadow Him. Just as manna sustained the Israelites physically, Jesus alone sustains us spiritually, offering the abundant and eternal life that only He can give. Pastor Cory highlights three important truths from this comparison. First, Jesus is all we truly need—everything required for spiritual life is found in Him. Second, just as God continued providing manna despite Israel’s repeated failures, Christ’s grace is not based on our performance. His forgiveness and sustaining presence remain available to all who come to Him in faith. Finally, the Israelites could not survive on yesterday’s manna, and neither can we rely solely on yesterday’s encounter with God. We are invited to seek Him daily, allowing Him to continually nourish our hearts through His presence and His Word. As we return to Jesus each day, we discover that He faithfully provides the life, strength, and grace we need for every moment.Today's Reading:August 4 – Jeremiah 39–41; John 6
