AUGUST 8 - Listening Hearts, Courageous Lives3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 21:13; Psalm 91; 2 Timothy 3–4//3-Year Bible Devotional Book (Year Two) Available on Amazon//________________________________________“Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.” — Proverbs 21:13 (ESV)“Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge—no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.” — Psalm 91:9–10 (ESV)“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” — 2 Timothy 4:2 (ESV)________________________________________Have you ever had someone tune you out when you really needed them to listen? It hurts, right? Proverbs 21:13 warns us not to be the kind of people who ignore the needs around us. God calls us to listen and care. Meanwhile, Psalm 91 reminds us that as we make God our refuge, He surrounds us with His protection and presence. And in 2 Timothy 4:2, Paul challenges us to share God’s truth boldly and patiently, no matter the situation. It’s easy to get caught up in our own world—school, sports, friendships, social media—and miss the cries for help around us. But God calls us to pay attention, to love courageously, and to speak His truth with patience and kindness. And when life gets tough, we can take comfort knowing that He promises to be our refuge, giving us strength to care for others and stand firm in our faith.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Open Ears, Open Hearts: Who around you might need someone to listen or care right now? How can you respond instead of turning away (Proverbs 21:13)?2. God as Your Refuge: How does making God your “dwelling place” (Psalm 91:9) change the way you face challenges or fears?3. Courage to Speak Truth: What does it look like for you to “be ready in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2) to share your faith or encourage someone with God’s Word?________________________________________BOTTOM LINELive with open ears, a courageous heart, and a faith rooted in God’s presence and truth.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for being my refuge and strength. Help me to listen with compassion, care for those in need, and speak Your truth with courage and patience. Teach me to live with open ears and a brave heart, trusting that You are always with me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
