Augusta Rocks Presents: Garrett Hicks

from DropTheDis Augusta Hosted by Augusta Podcasts

Today: The Augusta Rocks music mini series where we feature local musicians continues with a newer artist who is not only new to music, but also new to Augusta. Garrett Hicks is one of the least "seasoned" musicians that we have had on the show and yet, he has a natural music skill and style and has loved music all his life. Stick around till the end for his first original as well as an unreleased son that he claims is the only love song he's ever written. Shots in the Back: Exhuming the 1970 Augusta Riot Georgia Public Broadcasting "Shots in the Back: Exhuming the 1970 Augusta Riot" tells the story of one of the first major Civil Rights Era riots in the South. The immediate cause of the riot in Augusta, Ga. was the brutal murder of Charles Oatman, an African American teenager held by police in the county jail. During the riot, six black men were killed by white police officers, all of them shot in the back. In a collaboration, students at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts join GPB in telling this story.
