She is Bear Clan, an activist and justice leader for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and land back actions, and a law professor at the University of Windsor. Bev’s life and work is focussed on global Indigenous wellness as it intersects with both Haudenosaunee and Western law. Her grounding and inspiration come from powerful teachers in her own family and our greater communities. “As I was doing the interviews with the Knowledge Holders and I was asking them about our (Haudenosaunee) laws, almost every one of them said it is about our responsibility,” says Bev. “And then when we talk about colonial law—all of a sudden it becomes about rights. And that if we are to have a healthy relationship the way it was intended to be, then they would both be working at the same time.”A prolific scholar, her published work has earned her numerous awards, and her research and advocacy have gained national and international recognition.
