Austin Teen Shooting Spree and Multi-Agency Manhunt

A massive law enforcement response was triggered in the Austin, Texas area following a series of 10 to 12 seemingly random shootings over a single weekend. The violent spree began on a Saturday afternoon around 3:45 p.m. with the theft of a vehicle and a firearm, and the incidents continued into Sunday. Throughout the ordeal, the suspects fired upon apartment buildings, homes, pedestrians, and at least two fire stations. Four individuals were injured during the attacks, including a man who was shot in the back while walking his dog, and at least one victim suffered serious injuries.The suspects, described as teenage males, allegedly stole at least four cars and switched between multiple vehicles during the crime spree, including a dark blue or black Hyundai Sonata, a gold Hyundai, a silver Mazda, and a white Kia Optima.Due to the active threat, officials issued a shelter-in-place order for a large section of South Austin. The search intensified when an officer spotted the suspects' vehicle following a "be on the lookout" alert, which initiated a vehicle pursuit. The chase moved through the Manor area, culminating when the suspects crashed the car and fled on foot across an uneven field containing construction debris.Authorities quickly apprehended two of the suspects, identified as 15- and 17-year-old boys, and took them into custody. Following these initial arrests, the shelter-in-place for Austin was lifted, but a new shelter-in-place notice was issued for several neighborhoods in Manor as police searched for the third suspect. Law enforcement set up a perimeter and utilized helicopters, drones, K-9 units, and SWAT teams to systematically sweep the area and clear buildings. By Sunday night, the third suspect was successfully detained, bringing all three individuals into custody and effectively ending the threat.In an unrelated event from August 2025, South Austin experienced another severe incident when a burglary and home invasion suspect was confronted by police at a strip mall. After the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband, an innocent bystander tackled him, resulting in the bystander being injured in the shoulder and the suspect being fatally shot by responding officers.During active emergencies, residents are encouraged to sign up for community alerts to receive critical notifications by phone, email, or text.
