Authenticity as Strategic Leadership Tool and Personal Liability

Contemporary leadership emphasizes authenticity and vulnerability, yet transcendent leaders often discover that complete authenticity can undermine authority and trust. This episode examines the strategic calculation around self-disclosure, exploring how leaders balance the relationship-building benefits of authenticity with the authority-preserving benefits of professional distance. We analyze the gender, cultural, and contextual dimensions of authenticity—what reads as authentic vulnerability in one context reads as weakness in another.
