Autumn Equinox

The Autumn Equinox marks a turning point in the Wheel of the Year: a time of balance, harvest, gratitude, release, and preparation for the darker months ahead. In this episode, I explore the Autumn Equinox through the Medicine Wheel and the shamanic understanding of the natural cycles of life. In the tradition I was taught, the East represents spring, birth, new beginnings, and planting seeds. The South represents summer, growth, flourishing, and nurture. The West represents autumn, harvest, release, and preparation. The North represents winter, rest, healing, renewal, and going within. These seasons do not only exist in nature. They can also help us understand what is happening within our relationships, careers, creative work, personal healing, and spiritual development. Different areas of our lives may be experiencing completely different seasons at the same time. Autumn invites us to consider what we have grown, what we have learnt, and what we are ready to harvest. It also asks us to recognise what has completed its natural cycle and can now be released. As the days shorten and we begin our journey towards winter, the Medicine Wheel reminds us that darkness and stillness have their own purpose. Seeds germinate beneath the soil, roots deepen underground, animals hibernate, and human beings dream. What appears still on the outside may contain profound movement within.
