AV on Health: Hypertension and the Black Community

from Another View The Radio Show Podcast · host WHRO

More than half of Black adults in the United States suffer from hypertension, or high blood pressure. In fact, African Americans have a higher prevalence of hypertension than any other racial or ethnic group. There is a new study being conducted in Hampton Roads on the best ways to control high blood pressure. Sentara Health is partnering with ten Black churches to develop strategies and programs to fight this condition that is a major cause of stroke, heart attacks, and early death. Our guests include Iris Lundy, Director of Health Equity with Sentara Health; Reverend Jerry Holmes, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Bute Street; and Dr. Keith Newby, Cardiologist and Co-Host of Another View on Health.
