Obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, breast cancer and asthma are diseases that affect us all, but have a significantly disproportionate affect on African Americans and other minorities. We know that education, prevention efforts and an end to ethnic and racial disparities can make the difference. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have developed a program called REACH - Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health. There is a REACH program in Hampton Roads, and on the next Another View we'll talk about it with guests Joyce Jones Guinyard, REACH Project Manager and Community Liaison with the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health; Terrance Afer-Anderson, Health Educator with the Norfolk Department of Public Health; and Amy Paulson, Director of CINCH with EVMS.
