AV on Health: Sickle Cell Disease

Sickle cell disease affects 100,000 Americans, most of whom are Black. Sickle cell disease is a a debilitating blood disorder caused by a single mutated gene. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration approved two new treatments that could eliminate symptoms of the disease, and have even been called a "cure", but the treatments will be out of reach for most patients because of cost and availability. We'll talk about the disease, the symptoms, and how patients currently cope while trying to live with the pain.
