On a recent episode of Team Deakins (https://teamdeakins.libsyn.com/ava-duvernay-writer-director), director Ava DuVernay shared how she hadn't watch dailies with her cast and crew before, citing that it always seemed too time consuming. Every indie filmmaker can most likely relate. I can. But her upcoming movie, Origin, was shot on 16mm film and dailies were a necessity. Being forced to watch them changed her entire perspective on the concept of watching dailies with the cast and crew to the point where she'll always do it moving forward.
