The U.S. military is focusing on integrating high-energy laser weapons into light tactical vehicles, such as the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). This shift comes after the cancellation of the Stryker-based Directed Energy-Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (DE-MSHORAD) program. The Army's Multi-Purpose High Energy Laser (AMP-HEL) effort has already demonstrated the feasibility of using these vehicles for directed energy weapons. However, the primary challenge remains power supply, as current vehicles lack the necessary power generation capabilities to support laser weapons effectively. The solution lies in hybrid architectures combining generators and high-voltage battery systems to manage power spikes and enhance tactical versatility.
