Avila Heads to Korea for New Chance | Cleveland Guardians News

Pedro Avila, the 29-year-old pitcher who was recently released by the Guardians, is heading overseas to sign a $380K deal with the SSG Landers in Korea — with potential for an extra $200K in incentives. After a rough stint in the minors with Cleveland — where he posted a 7.50 ERA and struggled with walks and strikeouts — Avila’s move makes sense: the Guardians didn’t need him, and Korea offers him financial stability and a fresh start. His 2025 stint with Japan’s Yakult Swallows, where he posted a stellar 3.33 ERA, hints at his potential to return to MLB contention — if he keeps improving abroad.
