Avila Shines as Royals Edge Phillies | Kansas City Royals News

Rookie pitcher Luinder Avila delivered a standout performance, tossing five solid innings and allowing just one run to help the Royals edge out the Phillies 5-2. He kept hitters off balance with a mix of fastball, sinker, and offspeed pitches, not yielding a hit until the third inning—and even turned a double play in the second. The Royals jumped ahead early with two runs in the first, fueled by RBI hits from Lane Thomas and Michael Massey, then added another via Jac Caglianone’s sacrifice fly. Salvador Perez capped the win with a clutch two-run double in the eighth, sealing the victory as the Royals build momentum at home.
