We also recap what we know about last week’s DHL 757 runway overrun in San Jose, Costa Rica. And the European Union adds nearly two dozen Russian airlines to its list of banned airlines. DHL Aero Expreso 757 goes off the runway A DHL Aero Expreso 757 broke in two after exiting the runway area while making an emergency return to San Jose, Costa Rica following a hydraulic failure. We discuss what we know so far and what investigators are looking into. A Spirited update Following JetBlue’s surprise bid for Spirit Airlines, Spirit says it is evaluating the offer. EU adds Russian airlines to blacklist Separate from any sanctions, the EU has added nearly two dozen Russian airlines to its safety-based blacklist. The EU says the airlines have been operating their aircraft without valid airworthiness certificates, creating a safety risk. The end of the Covid Combi in Europe EASA says guidelines for operating passenger aircraft with cabin freight will expire at the end of July.
