As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, His followers comment about the grandeur of the Temple. It was indeed a spectacular sight, and inspired awe in those who saw it. But Jesus makes the startling announcement that a day was coming when the Temple would be completely destroyed! The Jews could not imagine that the destruction of the Temple could mean anything other than the end of the world! Jesus’ answer speaks to both - the end of the Temple and the end of the World, but it becomes clear, as history has shown, that they are two very different events, separated by a long period of time.
