Awaken Hope with Dr Lewis Meline on Exercise and Healthy

from Awaken Hope · host Kandiee Campbell

Dr. Lewis Meline I began my education in nutrition, exercise, and weight loss while serving in the United States Air Force nearly fifty years ago. Like many other military personnel (and civilians for that matter), I was very overweight and out-of-shape. It really bothered me to be like this, so I began to study everything that I could find to help me lose weight and get in better shape, eventually deciding to lift weights. Many different athlete and other diets were used over the years. They included very high protein intake and a variety of supplements. The supplements were very expensive (nothing has changed in that regard) and there were many times when I could not afford them. After several years of blindly following the various diet plans, and using recommended supplements, I began to notice that the expected results were not being obtained. There was no difference in my strength and muscle mass during the times that I could take the supplements and when I couldn’t. I also noticed that losing weight was no different whether I did or didn’t take various supplements advertised to make you lose weight.  What was the cause of this? Was it poor supplements? Was I taking the wrong supplements or using them inappropriately? Maybe my workouts were inadequate or I was doing the exercises incorrectly or even using the wrong exercises. This observation bothered me and I began to research the answer to these discrepancies. During this time, I was accepted to medical school. Now, finally I would be able to get the answers that I sought. However, I was sorely disappointed. Medical school did not teach the physiology I was looking for and it did not address the nutritional questions I wanted to answer. It also did not address weight loss, except for a brief mention of the consequences of being overweight. Therefore, I could not resolve the discrepancies I had noted and was left to research this information on my own. I continued to study from textbooks and any other information that I could find. I also spent a lot of time studying physical exercise and ways to improve my workouts.  There were several vitally important discoveries that I made concerning Diet, Supplements, Weight Loss, Exercise and especially Health. My desire to educate people about my findings led me to write a book, “Lies Exposed.” This book educates people as to what is proper nutrition, and how to apply that information to lose weight while maximizing their health. This information is vital for anyone who is serious about wanting to lose weight. This is especially true, since most people seeking weight loss are not aware of the need to maximize their health, and that supplements and medications are more detrimental than beneficial. The knowledge contained in my book was used as a basis for developing the coaching programs used by Straight Shooter Health, a platform for helping people lose weight and maximize their health. Understanding the ten commandments can be a good place to reflect on, as they were one of Israel's first introductions to learning how to relate to God and live in His way. Jesus also references the commandments in his sermon on the mount saying, “...whoever does them [the commandments] will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19) Looking forward to exploring these with you!
