Awakening the Mama Bear in Us All to Prevent Child Sex Abuse with Adrianne Simeone

from Moms Working Overtime · host Alanna Hellman

Facing the ugly of today's world when it comes to things like child sex abuse can make us feel uncomfortable, or unsettled, as moms. Often, it can make us fearful or cultivate feelings of denial. "That will never happen to my child." The harsh reality is that it does happen, and as moms it is our responsibility to empower ourselves with knowledge and strategies for preventing child sex abuse. We each have a superpower - that "mama bear" - inside of us that instinctually equips us to protect our children. I was so grateful for the opportunity to bring Adrianne Simeone, author of "My Body is Special and Private" and founder of The Mama Bear Effect, a nonprofit charitable organization committed to the prevention of child sex abuse, on the Moms Working Overtime podcast. Adrianne works tirelessly to spread awareness, research, educate, and provide resources to both professionals and families regarding child sex abuse prevention. On this episode, we discuss:- Strategies you can use to prevent a predator from gaining access to your child- How to teach your children about consent and body safety- How to initiate conversations with other parents about your stance on body safety- Navigating play dates and sleepovers- Posting about your children on social media- Approaching conversations with your children in a way that builds trust- How to help a child, and yourself, heal after sexual abuse- How to join the cause- ...and so much more! Adrianne is a wealth of knowledge and her organization is doing incredible work to help prevent this epidemic.
