Awkward Generalist with Robin Bennett

Robin is a proud generalist who thought she was supposed to be an expert. Led  by curiosity, she wandered and wondered, trying on a variety of career  options and industries, hoping to find the right “one.” Her professional journey consists of wearing multiple hats across numerous industries,  usually in sales, marketing, and strategy. Like many generalists, she  struggled to find her “calling.” In a world of specialists, experts,  influencers, and entrepreneurs, she kept sampling from the buffet of  “possibility.” One of GoDaddy’s repeat customers, she’s been known to have more than a dozen domains at a time, each with its own business plan. Finally fed up with trying to figure out her true domain or  “calling,” she decided to just be herself. She went back through numerous journals, career assessments, and personality tests and discovered three main themes: curiosity, enthusiasm, and creativity. She now uses her innate curiosity, broad experience, and enthusiasm to help widget-makers, manufacturers, industrial companies, and B2B sales organizations turn their subject matter expertise into marketing and messages that are creative, fun, and make their audiences feel good.  Instead of trying to be an expert, she’s embraced being a fan, someone who follows what she thinks is cool and exciting, whether it’s a  product, component, winemaker, poet, rock band, or something else that tickles her fancy. As a marketer, she looks at things the way a fan  might look at them, saying to herself, “that’s cool; people should know  about that.” If she thinks your product, service, or brand is interesting, valuable, or awesome, she won’t stop talking about it. She lives by the motto that if you’re deeply interested, you’ll be  interesting.
