在陆生哺乳动物中，身体挥发物可以有效地触发或阻止同类的攻击行为。近日，有研究测试了十六醛 (HEX,婴儿分泌较多)这种作为哺乳动物范围内社会化学信号的人体挥发性物质，是否会影响人类的攻击性，研究观察到明显的分离：嗅闻HEX阻止了男性的攻击性，但引发了女性的攻击性。
