James and Sara Woodman have resurrected DJS Arcade Pizzeria in Grand Marais, reopening this spring after buying it back from the previous owners. The arcade, which has roots dating to the 1940s, now features classic games and James’s signature New York-style pizza — a recipe he perfected over 30 years. James, who once worked across the street and caused “havoc” at the arcade as a kid, returned to Manitoba after living on the West Coast to be closer to family. The community has embraced the revival as a cherished, safe hangout for kids. Named after their friend David Morris — who services most of the games — the arcade is more than a business; it’s a nostalgic homecoming. With plans for future renovations and possibly a Winnipeg location, the Woodmans are living their dream — raising their kids in the same beach town where James grew up.
